Bottle episode
Good songs are scattered throughout the run, even in this, the bottom show of the five. The next night is the big one, but this is still GOGD - just not high energy. There are still a few must-hear places.
First Set. The Minglewood start bodes better than the previous night, but things never quite take off like the next night. The next several are average, though solid enough, but Tennessee Jed is one of the top 3 of '78. I love Jer's end solo, where, 1min in, he starts double-stopping out of the blue. That moment raises the rest of the set to above average terrain. The matrix avoids the botched SBD for the 1st min of Lazy Lightning.
Second Set. It's in the last couple mins that Half-Step Mississippi comes together. Franklin's is bashful; not hugely eventful. Dancing will seem typical most of the way, but the devolving jam in the last 5 mins is cooler than the other side of the pillow. Phil keeps it grounded; must hear once. The tempo-getting-slow era for Not Fade starts right here, but it's not yet fully realized at this pace. Black Peter is also at a draggy tempo - Bobby sticks to slide, as for much of this set. There's lost of futzing around in Around, and getting sloppy. It's double berries, though Johnny B. Goode is saved for the encore, where it's underplayed. In a super moment, they come back for a rare second encore, to deliver the 3rd-ever Shakedown. The first in an encore slot (though that became common in '79), it's interesting and smooth as hell.
1st Set: C+
2nd Set: C
Overall = 2¾ stars
Highlights:
Tennessee Jed - may be best of '78
Shakedown Street - a unique & varied one, and sitting in second encore slot
SOURCES: The SBD has a high freq whistle that's been filtered by the miller_92542. It's also patched, though the tunings are edited and it runs a tad fast, needing up to -1% pitch correction. The Holwein AUD makes a great matrix (135505_mtx_dusborne), which smooths inconsistencies between the two.

Hidden Gem
The first set has some high points (Tenn. Jed and Lightin'> Supplication), but as usual set 2 is where the magic happens. The whole thing is REAL good. Especially Franklin's and Black Peter. You need to hear a good number of shows to appreciate the uniqueness of this one - it has a real personality! Not 5 stars only because of considering '72 - '74.

From Egypt With Love
I'm not sure why Rhino didn't release all of the From Egypt Winterland run? Every moment of thoes shows should have been released! The band were on fire this night and their performance of Dancin' will blow you away. God bless you Charlie Miller, this is another great sounding board! I love the Dead's late 70's sound and this is a perfect example of the band at their best! Not a bad on on this tape, check it out!
